Resources for Pastors

Sincerely, we are grateful for you and want to recognize you even stumbling on this page. We have yet to find a church with an extra staff member looking for something to do; our goal is not to add to your staff’s workload but OUR VISION is to help you and your church body navigate loving birth families and supporting the adoptive and foster families in your church and community.

WHY? We’re called to care for the oppressed, the fatherless, and the orphan. The first Sunday one of my foster placements had ever attended church he was asked to complete a Family Tree. When we arrived at the end of Sunday school we found him with a completely blank sheet and a clueless childcare ministry worker. Our churches have to be safe spaces to welcome kids in out of home care AND be a safe space for adoptive families who are struggling, dealing with the impacts of early childhood trauma.

Engaging your church is easy, you can do a one-time event or donation drive or choose to have an ongoing relationship. We’ve outlined three simple on-ramps for churches and provided a description of the ideal ‘Champion’ to serve as our liaison.

Raise awareness of foster care in your community by hosting a donation drive. Provide your church members with an easy, low-no commitment way to love foster children and families.

Help One Child provides a ‘program in a box’ to make hosting a breeze for volunteers.

Giving Tree During the holiday season, members of your congregation have the opportunity to chose an ornament with a personal gift request.

Camp Drive Make sure campers attending Help One Child’s summer camp have all the essentials.

Provide your church with an interactive way to engage with families impacted by foster care and adoption. Host an event for families or treat the parents by providing structured ‘VBS’ style childcare.

Help One Child will provide the event outline and training for volunteers interested in serving.
